Trade Bait
In the 2009 NFL draft, the New York Jets traded big to acquire current quarterback Mark Sanchez. The Jets gave up the 17th overall pick, their 2nd round pick, defensive end Kenyon Coleman, Safety Abram Elam, and quarterback Brett Ratliff, for the 5th overall pick from Cleveland. However, I suggest using this draft to trade even bigger to get rid of Sanchez.
The last couple seasons, the Jets have had the talent to make at least one or two Super Bowl appearances. They have had all the talent minus a good quarterback that is. One might dispute that the Jets have won 4 out of 6 playoff games with Sanchez under center. But, the other facts prove otherwise.
Some may ponder; maybe Sanchez just needed a better supporting cast? Well, that was never the case with the young quarterback. Over the years, he was provided Santonio Holmes, Plaxico Burress, Braylon Edwards, Dustin Keller, Brad Smith, and Jerricho Cotchery. With those weapons at hand, there’s no reason for Sanchez’s lack of success. Maybe it was the defense let Sanchez and the offense down?
That was definitely not the case. The Jets simply had a stingy defense that kept the rest of the team a float. Since Sanchez was drafted, the Jets defense ranked number one in 2009, number three in 2010, and number five in 2011. One can’t discredit the Jets productive running attack either. The Jets had future hall of famer Ladanian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene pounding the rock consistently.
In the end, one is left to believe Sanchez’s lack of experience has finally caught up with him. For the Jets sake, maybe they should have listened clearly when Sanchez’s former college coach Pete Carroll said Sanchez was not prepared for the NFL. When it matters most, Sanchez has simply been lights, camera, and no action.
Furthermore, the next guarantee Ryan should make, is that he plans to shake up the draft and make a run at a new starting quarterback.

I agree that Sanchez is not the answer in New York, but the Jets disagreed with both of us.
ReplyDeleteHow they justify adding three years and $40.5 million onto Sanchez's rookie contract, which had two years left, is beyond me. If I'm a Jets fan, Jets coach or Jets player, I'm jumping ship.
I couldn't agree more. When I took notice to the contract extension I was baffled. Quite possibly one of the most questionable moves they had made. They will never come close to a Super Bowl with him under center.
